Canadian Nag Donate ng P1.2M Para sa Pilipinas Sa Halip Na Gastusin Para Sa Kanyang World Tour

A Canadian tourist was so grateful by the good deed that a public hospital in the Philippines did to him that he cancelled his world tour to donate a big amount of money pay his debt of gratitude to the latter.

John Abou-Samra, a tourist who traveled to the Philippines to see the beautiful islands in Palawan last June, first he visited El Nido then after a few days, he traveled to Coron.

But an unfortunate accident happened to him while exploring the Kayangan Lake in Coron Town.

Samra sustained a painful injury after a couple of wooden slats gave way and one of his legs plunged down to his hip.

Fortunately, bystanders who saw him quickly aided to pull him up and gave him first aid. The concerned citizens helped him to walk until he reach a boat that would transport him to his hotel.

“I asked someone to take a picture of me, and then after she took picture, I moved to this side to sit down. While I moved, two of this wood, they split, and my right leg sank between them up to my hip. Until now I still have the pain,” he told ABS-CBN News in an interview.

He thought that after that day, everything would be okay, but later on his wounds started to worsen so he decided to ask for a medical treatment.

The attending physician, Dr. Edgar Flores, quickly checked the condition of the tourist by checking his bones and giving him some advise on how he would treat his injuries.

While he was there, the curious tourist noticed the bad condition of the medical center that he visited.

There were lack of medical machinery and even supplies that might help their patients were insufficient or non-existent.

So to pay the hospitality that the people of Coron showed to him, Samra decided to cancel his dream cruise tour, instead he donated some of his money to the medical hospital that treated him.

Despite of being a bus driver, Samra is a known contributor in his community and supported food banks.

According to the report of Tri-City news, Samra donated 1.6-M worth of medical equipment to the medical hospital, several days before his retirement from Coast Mountain Bus Company.

A filipino friend helped him to coordinate with the consulate in Vancouver to transport the equipment to Coron.

The bill will come to more than $16,000.
